Family Practitioner from Salmon Arm BC, Canada
A native of Salmon Arm, BC, Dr. Ruth Brighouse has been part of the Thompson Region Family Obstetrics Group team of doctors since 2008. She has been a family doctor for 20 years and her passion has always been women’s reproductive health from contraception to pregnancy and delivery. She has a deep concern for the well-being of mothers and babies everywhere in the world. For the past 11 years she has been part of a Safe Motherhood Project in Guatemala which endeavors to teach traditional birth attendants called “comadronas” emergency birthing skills.
Ruth promotes life balance and when she is not delivering babies, she enjoys skiing, hiking, biking, and rowing in the beautiful surroundings of the Shuswap and nearby mountain ranges. In the evenings she pursues music of all forms. Her birthing philosophy is that ‘Mother Nature’ does the best job. However, she is thankful that modern medical interventions are available if needed. Ruth has one son who was born at Shuswap Lake General Hospital.
